Travel for Students of Educational Institutions and Students of Vocational Education Institutions

In accordance with Resolution No. 541 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated April 5, 1999, the right to discounted travel is granted to:

  • students of vocational (vocational-technical) education institutions;

  • students (cadets of non-military institutions) of professional pre-higher and higher education institutions.

Discounted travel is available on domestic railway services within the territory of Ukraine.

Conditions for Receiving the Discount

Discounted travel is provided subject to confirmation of the student’s status through the Unified State Electronic Database on Education (EDEBO), established in accordance with Resolution No. 752 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated July 13, 2011.

The templates for student and pupil ID cards are approved by Order No. 1474 of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine dated October 25, 2013, “On Approval of the Regulations on State-Standard Student (Pupil) ID Cards.”

Please note that travel for students of higher education institutions of accreditation levels I–IV and students of vocational education institutions is provided with a 50% discount on the travel fare (ticket and reserved-seat charge) for domestic services in standard and reserved-seat carriages, 2nd- and 3rd-class carriages of all train categories, as well as in all carriages of regional trains.

Travel for Children

In accordance with Resolution No. 976 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated July 28, 2004, “On Establishing a Discounted Fare for the Transportation of Children by Rail”, the discounted fare for children aged six to fourteen traveling by rail on domestic services (in passenger carriages of all categories) is 75% of the adult passenger fare.

Children under the age of six who do not occupy a separate seat are entitled to travel free of charge without a travel document.

According to the Rules for the Carriage of Passengers, Baggage, Excess Baggage and Mail by Rail in Ukraine, on domestic services, a child under the age of 6 who does not occupy a separate seat may travel with an adult passenger free of charge and without purchasing a travel document.

If one adult passenger is traveling with more than one child under the age of 6, the passenger must additionally purchase a child travel document for each seat occupied by the children, provided that no more than two children under the age of 6 are accommodated on the same berth.

On domestic services, the transportation of:

  • a child aged 6 to 14;

  • a child under 6 for whom the accompanying person wishes to have a separate seat,

is provided with child travel documents.

The child’s age for determining eligibility for a fare discount is established as of the date of departure.

Children under the age of 14 may travel on passenger trains only when accompanied by an adult.

A passenger traveling with a child under the age of 14 must have a document confirming the child’s age and present it to authorized control personnel when boarding the train and during the journey.

The fare for children aged 6 to 14 is 75% of the adult passenger fare (the full travel document fare, excluding service fees).

At What Age Can a Child Travel Without Adult Supervision?

Children aged 14 and over may board trains independently and travel within the territory of Ukraine.

Rules regarding crossing the state border may vary depending on the country, the child’s age, and whether the child is accompanied by an adult.

Detailed information on the requirements for Ukrainian citizens crossing the border can be found on the official website of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
