Carrying baggage and hand luggage on trains is subject to certain rules and limits set by the railway to ensure passengers' safety and comfort.
1. How to carry hand luggage
1.1 General rules
Under current Ukrainian regulations, the permitted size and weight of hand luggage are limited. There is a formula to follow: height + width + length must not exceed 180 cm.
1.2 Weight limits
Hand luggage for passengers in open-plan sleeper (platskart) and compartment (kupe) carriages must not exceed 36 kg. For passengers in premium carriages, the limit rises to 50 kg.
2. Where to put hand luggage in the carriage
Hand luggage should be stowed in the spaces provided: under the lower berth, in the recess under the ceiling or on the luggage racks above the seats.
3. Carrying special items
It's not just bags you can take on the train. You are also allowed to carry pushchairs, tools, bicycles, motorcycles, sports equipment and electronic devices.
4. What you cannot carry
4.1 Prohibited items
Prohibited items include flammable substances, weapons, precious metals and jewellery.
5. Carrying baggage in a special carriage
If you are carrying bulky baggage, you need to use a special baggage carriage, where separate rules apply.
5.1 Packing baggage
Items must be packed in closed suitcases, boxes or crates. Baskets, sacks and bundles should be tied with metal strapping or rope.
6. Baggage collection
Not all stations are equipped to hand out baggage, so it is important to take this into account when planning your trip.
Following these rules and limits ensures a comfortable and safe journey for you and other passengers. Always check the current rules and limits before each trip.
