Pack your rucksack, check your tyres and set off for new adventures by rail!

Carrying bicycles on trains: convenient options

Regional trains with 2nd and 3rd class carriages (tickets for which you can buy online on the AnyTrain website) have dedicated spaces for bicycles. These are available on new or modernised trains. On older electric or diesel trains, bicycles must be placed in the vestibule (no more than one per vestibule). Carrying a bicycle costs the same as 20 kg of luggage and is paid for with a special receipt or an electronic carriage document.

Rules for bicycles in compartment and open-plan carriages

On overnight fast and passenger trains, bicycles may be carried dismantled and packed. They must fit easily in the hand-luggage spaces, and no extra charge applies. Bicycles may not be carried in the vestibules of compartment (kupe) and open-plan (platskart) carriages.

Rules for bicycles on Intercity and Intercity+ trains

On Intercity and Intercity+ trains, assembled bicycles are not allowed because there is no room for them in the carriages. Only dismantled and packed bicycles may be carried (no more than one per passenger). The bicycle must be no more than 200 cm high, its total weight together with your hand luggage must not exceed 36 kg, and it must fit easily in the hand-luggage spaces. No charge applies in this case.

Now that you know all the rules for taking a bicycle by rail, set off on your next adventure by train with your bike and enjoy the incredible feeling of combining two such exciting ways to travel!
